Parkland Formula for Burns
Crystalloid volume for the first 24 hours after a major burn.
When to use it. Starting fluid resuscitation in an adult with burns over roughly 20% of body surface area.

Limits of this score. This is a STARTING POINT, not a prescription. Titrate to urine output (0.5 mL/kg/h in adults) and re-calculate — over-resuscitation causes abdominal compartment syndrome and is now a commoner harm than under-resuscitation. The clock runs from the TIME OF INJURY, not from arrival. Exclude simple erythema from the burn area, and children need maintenance fluid in addition.
