Ideal & Adjusted Body Weight

Devine ideal body weight, with adjusted body weight for dosing in obesity.

When to use it. Dosing drugs that distribute into lean tissue, and setting tidal volume in lung-protective ventilation (which uses PREDICTED body weight, calculated the same way).

Limits of this score. Which weight to use depends entirely on the drug. Aminoglycosides use adjusted weight; suxamethonium uses total body weight; ventilator tidal volume uses predicted weight and never actual weight. Using the wrong one is a dosing error, not a rounding difference.
