Anion Gap
Anion gap with optional albumin correction — the first branch point in a metabolic acidosis.

Limits of this score. Hypoalbuminaemia lowers the gap by roughly 2.5 mmol/L for every 1 g/dL the albumin falls, which is enough to hide a lactic acidosis in a septic patient. Always correct when the albumin is low. Reference ranges are analyser-specific.
